Render != Display
Doesn't mean linux will look pretty or make pretty things just yet, linux was used in their rendering farms, and it commonly is... that doesn't mean the artists used linux on their workstations.
And linux basically just needs that, a good graphics library. X has great features and i've worked with alot of them, but personally it dies hardcore when it comes down to displayin smooth 3d-ish graphics. I'm just mad because i remember when i thought "in two years linux will rock because by then they'll have kickass graphics and new shizzle" its been almost half a decade and I still view linux as needing more graphics support and the only thing to grow since then was p2p networks. |

When my company was subscribing to Linux Journal, I've read an article there about the production of Shrek and it clearly stated that they've used linux not only for their 1000+ nod rendering cluster, but also on every designers workstation.
In fact, you can see that big computer graphics software players like Maya and SoftImage all have software for linux workstations now, and most of the major CG studios use it on both workstations and servers.
The reason Hollywood is using linux is because they need to make a huge number popriotary tweaks, and what is the better system then Linux? You've got the source -- you've got the power!
Besides, it looks like it's saving them $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ |

runs just nicely on my "magic" laptop. Thank you!
